Panchakarma is a classical Ayurvedic programme built around preparation, one or more carefully selected procedures, and structured post-therapy care. It is not a generic spa detox, and no single procedure is suitable for everyone.
The broad stages are Poorva Karma, or preparation; Pradhana Karma, the selected main procedure; and Paschat Karma, the recovery phase. Assessment, strength, age, season, medicines, medical history, consent, monitoring, diet, and rest all influence the plan.
The five classical actions are described as Vamana, Virechana, Basti, Nasya, and Raktamokshana. A person would not routinely receive all five, and any procedure should occur only in a trained clinical setting after contraindication screening.
Individual goals may include digestive comfort, rest, routine, and recovery. Responses vary, and Panchakarma should never replace essential medical treatment or be attempted without physician guidance.
